Question for Visitors

I've got a question for those who visit my site: what do you folks think about sketches or WIPs?

I've been mulling over this idea for a long, long time, but haven't done it for a very specific reason: plagiarism. Plagiarism falls under the category of theft, and I feel it's one of the worst kinds of theft since not only steals someone else's hard work, but it can also prevent someone from getting a job if the plagiarist gets hired. Plagiarism is far more common than I'd like, and I've seen some people lie their way through jobs for years.

Because of this, I've been reluctant to show progress pieces, but I do understand that it would make my site more enjoyable. Typically, I just show what I think looks "finished," but there's a lot of material I haven't shown because they're just design tests or character development. You know, stuff that you might just skip over.

So, whaddaya think? What do you folks want to see?

Pandora-Tan Update That Isn't an Update

My lack-of-updates trend continues...

Unfortunately there's nothing new to see here right now. What I'm working on in my spare time: animation work for a video game. Mostly, anyway...

On the side I've been spending a few minutes here and there scribbling out a new version of Pandora-tan. I was never really too settled on the previous version, and as some on the forums have pointed out, she doesn't really fit in with the rest of the -tan crowd. "Out of place," as one person put it, and they're right. She was meant to be a more 'Western' type of design than one that had roots in Asia, a character that those usually turned off by anime-based styles could potentially appreciate.

But my typical style veers more toward moe, and moe Pandora-tan is not. Well, not my kind of moe, anyway. :3

Thus, my quest continues. I've been developing a different version on and off since I posted my original Pandora-tan, and at present, I think she's cute. But that's just my opinion. ^-^ She still needs some refining and developing, though I think I've finally settled on a direction I like and can proceed with. With luck I'll have something up here in the coming month, be it a pencil piece or a color rough.

Oh yeah...! And Happy Halloween, everyone!

Pandora-tan

I don't know how many people know of the Pandora console, but it's nearing completion and will see shipment soon. The development team has been hard at work putting the console's OS together and held an open invitation for wallpaper submissions. OS-tans are quite common these days, so I thought I'd create one for wallpaper goodness. This image is the resulting concept.

It's an incomplete design, and I'm going to refine certain bits later. I belted this one out as quick as I could between work so there's a lot that could be changed. It's not as "moe" as per the usual OS-tan (or Console-tan) manner since I see Pandora as a more mature device than, say, an NDS or Wii.

I have a moe (pronounced "mo-eh" for those who don't know the term) version in mind, but no time to work on it now. It'll probably appear here when it gets made.

On a different note, I noticed this particular image was uploaded to another server (woohoo! first time ever! ... I think ^_^), which I was pretty happy about. The uploader didn't link back to the original forum post, my Picasa page, or my site, so I may start putting my page address on all my images again so people can find the source easier.

Felina Haynesworth Revisited

Here's something I cooked up over the weekend while I was thinking of new ideas. It's just a simple portrait-like sketch of Felina Haynesworth, an Unreal Tournament 2004 skin I released about 4 years ago. It's been a while since I put anything Felina-related up on the web, but I liked this sketch so I thought I'd show it. I have more, but for now this is the only one I'm willing to show. Maybe I'll put others up later. ;)

I found it interesting (and pretty awesome) that even after all these years, some people still have an interest in her. Some have asked if I'm planning on putting her into UT3. I looked over the character models that had been released thus far, and many are gorgeous. I mean really, really gorgeous. Felina in UT3 might be awesome, but I'm not sure yet if I'd be willing to invest the time necessary to make her, especially with the expectations that'll no doubt fall upon me with it. o_o

Any thoughts?

Fish render

While working on my demo reel I thought I'd render out a quick image of my progress on Fish. I couldn't think of a good name for him (I'll take suggestions), but right now the texture is temporary while I work on his animations.

There's still a lot of work to do on the shading. I'm not sure I'll be able to finish that AND render it quick enough, but I'm sure as heck gonna try. ;)

TFP news page changed to blog

Hey everyone! Finally got around to trying some blog software out, and looks like this is the one I'm gonna go with for the time being. Since I'm not hosting it on my site, the Blogger navbar is gonna have to be put up with (hope it's not a bother!). Feel free to comment as you please. :)

To the left, a quickie sketch I came up with tonight. Didn't take more than a few minutes, but it was a nice diversion for a short while. That said, it's back to work with me.
